Wondering what steps you need to take to do asphalt driveway repair yourself? It’s easy as can be! Follow our quick guide below and you’ll be ready to seal up your driveway before temperatures start to drop.
Remember to check the forecast! You need sunny skies and temperatures no lower than the 60s to make crack filler cure and asphalt seal coat stick.
Step 1: Inspect cracks. If weeds are growing out of them, pull them and clean all cracks with strong spray from a garden hose or pressure washer.
Step 2: Apply plain white vinegar from your pantry to problem areas. If the crack is deep, fill it to about 1/4″ from the surface with sand, and tamp it down.
Step 3: Apply crack filler – Hot Pour or Cold Liquid Pour Asphalt Fill. Make sure that it won’t rain the day you are repairing, otherwise you waste your time and money.
Step 4: Allow time for the Fill to cure. Allow for 24-48 hours to cure completely, and be sure to block off your driveway during that time!
Step 5: Apply asphalt sealant such as Coal Tar Sealer.
Keep in mind, however, for any cracks that are deeper than 2 inches, you should consider consulting with an Asphalt Repair Professional.
