How to Know If You Can Seal Over Oil Spots – The Key Test
Before using the AirBoss 750 to seal any surface, check for oil contamination that could compromise your results. Sealer won't bond properly to oil-soaked asphalt unless it's prepped the right way.
Here’s how to do the Key Test:
Take a flat-head screwdriver or a key and press it into the oil-stained area.
- If it sinks into soft asphalt: the spot is damaged and needs to be cut out and patched before sealing.
- If the surface is still firm: pressure wash it with hot water and a degreasing chemical. Once dry, apply Oxi-Bond Primer to lock the surface and ensure long-term adhesion.
This simple test helps avoid sealer failures, giving you the clean, professional finish your clients expect—especially on high-traffic jobs.
