How long does the cold patch stay shelf pliable if not used immediately?

Our pothole patch is good for 3-4 years. It may harden a bit in the bag but simply setting it in the sun or in a heated area will soften it again.

How does the patch adhere and bind to the existing asphalt? Does there need to be any reinforcing installed with the patch?

No reinforcing required. Make sure the foundation of the patch is leveled and compacted, and then put the patch in. We recommend a depth of 2.5" - anything deeper should be filled with crushed stone.

How big of a perimeter for saw cutting is needed for the cold patch?

Just to the edges of the visibly decayed area.

Can this material be used to build up asphalt, as a shim or ramp, to allow clear passage of a plow over a slightly raised manhole cover?

Yes, the cold asphalt patch product can be used to build up asphalt. Gator patch would not work for this use though.

How many potholes can a pallet repair?

Coverage varies with hole size and compaction. As a planning guide, many contractors repair well over 100 small to medium potholes from a 63-bag pallet, assuming proper base prep and lift thickness.

Can I use cold patch in wet or freezing conditions?

Yes, that is the strength of a bulk cold patch supply. Dry, clean surfaces yield the best bond. Remove standing water, brush out fines, and compact thoroughly for reliable results.

Do I need a plate compactor?

A hand tamper works for small repairs. A plate compactor improves density, reduces settling, and typically shortens the time to traffic-readiness on larger patches.

How soon can I reopen to traffic?

Often, quickly after compaction. Actual timing depends on temperature, layer thickness, and traffic type. Verify firmness by checking for movement under load and compact again if needed.

Will it stick to oil-stained areas?

Only if the base is firm and properly prepared. Use the Key Test above. If firm, degrease or hot-water pressure wash, then prime with Oxi-Bond Primer before placing the mix.
