Cracks in your driveway? Fix them before they get worse! Our DIY Driveway Repair Kit gives you the tools and supplies you need to repair your driveway and protect it from further damage:
- Liquid Pour Crackfiller: Repairs narrow cracks and needs no special equipment to use. Just pour and squeegee!
- V-shaped Squeegee: A heavy-duty v-shaped squeegee to level out your crackfiller.
- Commercial-Grade Sealcoat: For a professional finish and long-lasting results. Offers the best resistance to the elements and the longest color retention.
- Sealer Brush: A two-in-one brush that gives you a stiff synthetic fiber brush and an 18" squeegee to spread the sealer evenly on your driveway.
Restore your driveway by following these steps:
Clean your driveway. By having a clean driveway to start with, you will ensure that your repairs and sealcoating job will last.
First, sweep off the driveway's surface. If you're going to repair cracks, get a screwdriver or chisel and scrape out any loose gravel or vegetation. Use a broom or a blower to rid the crack of any dirt.
If you have any gas or oil stains on your driveway, you need to use a degreaser to remove it. Otherwise, the oil will eat right through your sealcoating job.
Once your driveway is clean and dry, you can go on to the next step.
Repair your asphalt cracks. Your next step is to fix the cracks so that water will not penetrate. This will also prevent grass and weeds from growing in the cracks.
The cold pour crackfiller is to be used in cracks that are 1/2" wide or less. If your crack is very deep, you can add sand to the crack until it is 1" deep.
Pour the crackfiller into the driveway crack. Use the V-shaped squeegee to smooth off the crackfiller. Let dry for at least an hour.
Sealcoat your driveway for protection of up to 4 years. Sealcoating your asphalt will add layers of protection against the sun, grease, and water penetration. Before sealcoating, make sure that there is no precipitation forecasted for the day and that the temperature will be 60°F or above.
Once your crack repairs are dry, prepare your sealer by stirring it with a paint stick or a drill mixer. To sealcoat your driveway with the squeegee and brush, you will go from the top of your driveway to the bottom.
Pour out a small amount of sealer in a strip along the top of the driveway. With the sealer brush or squeegee, spread the sealer evenly by pulling the sealer towards you. Repeat the process of pouring the sealer out and spreading it until you are at the bottom of your driveway. Keep in mind that a thin coat is better, so don't pour out too much sealer at a time.
Block off the driveway with caution tape, traffic cones, or other obstacles. Let the sealcoat dry for at least 3-4 hours before pedestrian traffic, and at least 6-8 hours before vehicle traffic.
If you want to have a second coat of sealer, let dry for 12 hours before applying a second coat.
